| Meet Sally Chang, L.Ac.
I was born fifth generation in a lineage of medical practitioners. My great-great grandfather, and great-grandfather were traditional herbalists of their hometowns in Taiwan, while my grandfather and uncles pursued western medicine. The decision to practice medicine was first inspired by my own health concerns after completing my Bachelor's Degree of Fine Arts for sculptural studies. While working as a professional artist, my lifestyle of late night hours, poor diet, and use of toxic materials in my artwork - was not ideal for my health. I began addressing my own health needs with acupuncture, was facinated by it's efficacy and intrigued by it's theories. This led directly to Master's degree studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at Five Branches Institute where I specialized in Integrative Sports Medicine. I then completed 300 hours of post-graduate studies in Acupuncture Orthopedics and continue to pursue knowledge in Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM). While I no longer produce sculptural works, I consider medicine to be deeply fulfilling as an artist. Clinical practice is an artful science. For patients, I may be a conduit to better health, but ultimate healing is the restoration of the body's innate ability to regulate and maintain itself. Additionally, the practice of martial arts has been key to my understanding of the human body. I began studying martial arts in 1992 with Gungfu, then Taiji Chuan, Qi Gong, and Bagua Zhang. The practice of martial arts informs all branches of medicine by way of cultivating skillful engagement of mind and body. I believe the "art" aspect is the study and expression of our re/actions when confronted with difficult issues, internally or externally generated, large or small in scale. The science art of classical Chinese medicine is the treatment - Acupuncture, Herbal formulation, Tuina massage and Qi Gong - they are specifically tailored for the individual. It grows and evolves as life seeks dynamic balance. L.Ac.,ÊLicensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist certified by the California Acupuncture Board Dipl.
